Col Balwant Singh (Retd)
India has been playing the role of a big brother in the Indian sub continent as a peace loving and progressive Nation extending all possible support to its neighboring Nations for their economic growth and development. The country has huge potential to grow up well economically, keeping in view its geographical situation and the availability of rich natural resources with well segmented hills ranges in the great Himalayan region making beautiful tourism corridors in the North and the North east and wide spread coastal areas embedded with natural beauties situated in the south and south west attract tourists from all over of the world and has been boosting the Indian economy with a continuous growth of tourism industry.
A steady move on the path of progress with a balanced economic growth has been getting hampered due to undeclared proxy war launched by Pakistan since Independence, mainly in the Kashmir region of Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan has been trying its nafarious designs on the Indian territory to destablise peace through cross border terrorism and exploitation of the raw religious sentiments of the local youth, who fall prey to them through hypnotism on the name of jihad. The latest cowardly attack by Pakistan trained terrorists in Baisaran Valley Pahalgam crossed all bounds of brutality and has shown the true face of Pakistan of being a terrorists breeding Nation posing danger to the whole world.
India as a sovereign Nation reacted fast and launched Operation Sindoor to revenge cowardly act by Pakistan trained terrorists and destroyed nine of their hideouts and launching pads situated in the interior of Pakistan. Government of India gave a free hand to the Indian Armed Forces to deal sternly with the situation and this bold decision on the part of Government resulted in a successful launching of the Operation and achieving the objective in a very short span of time. The apt weaponry and war plans well coordinated among Army, Navy and Air force yielded desired results and the terrorists were brought to justice. India proved that militarly it is far ahead of its adversary and during the conflict effectively used its indigenously made armaments like Akash medium range surface to air and Brahmos supersonic cruise missiles. Beside neutralizing terrorists training camps, hundreds of terrorists were killed during the precise air strikes and Pakistan suffered heavy infrastructural loss compelling Pakistan to ask for a cease fire through its Director General of Military Operations.
India has made it clear that Operation Sindoor will continue till the time Pakistan stops breeding terrorists and any act of terrorism on Indian Soil will be taken as Act of War against India. Indus water treaty will remain suspended and other trade and Visa sanctions remain imposed. It came as a wise decision for the Indian Government for immediate cessation of hostilities after a befitting lesson taught to Pakistan because India is a peace loving country with its rapidly growing economy and as far as possible we have to avoide conflicts and concentrate more on economic development of the country to ensure economic well being of our people but of course not at the cast of our sovereignty.
Since past few years, especially after the abrogation of article 370 and 35A, Jammu and Kashmir was experiencing a state of normalcy and many Institutional and other infrastructural projects are under implementation through the central funding to ensure wholistic development in the Union territory. The terrorists were able to carryout henious act of carrying out mass killing of unarmed people becasue agengies responsible for providing fool proof security in the area were not properly geared up for such an unexpected incident due to improved security scenario in the entire Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Learning from the unfortunate incident of Pahalgam, which sent a shock wave to the entire Nation, the future strategies and remedial measures have to be instituted in a foolproof manner and present pace of dealing with the terrorism with an iron hand must continue unabated. Cross border terrorism has to be put to an end through a strong round the clock vigilance for which additional manpower may have be deployed at the vulnerable points, tunneling stopped and International border infallibly sealed. On the other hand, a honest and the holistic approach will improve internal security scenario. Thorough search and cordon Operations have to be undertaken in the various pockets to neutralize militants who may be in the hiding with the local or no local support elsewhere. The external funding to the anti nationals has to be stopped totally and the over ground support to the militants be ceased through an efficient admistration of the militancy infested areas.
India though a peace loving and a progressive Nation has suffered much due to militancy. Learning from the past experience, a fool proof approach has to be put in place to put an end to the terrorism forever.
