NEW DELHI, June 11: Union Minister for Railways and Information & Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw today said India grew faster on all fronts and lives of the people were transformed during 11 years rule of Narendra Modi-led BJP Government at the Centre.
Addressing an event here in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president and Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda and Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Vaishnaw gave detailed presentation on the 11 years of ‘Seva’ (service), ‘Sushashan’ (good governance) and Gareeb Kalyan (welfare of the poor) under the Modi Government.

“Humongous tasks have been fulfilled under Modi’s leadership to put the country on the path of “long-term growth”. India became a global power house under Modi’s leadership, with per capita GDP increasing from Rs 86,647 in FY 2014 to Rs 2 lakh in FY 2025 due to structural economic reforms brought by his Government,’’ Vaishnaw said.
He said the Modi Government’s ‘Start Up India’ scheme provided small loans to empower grassroots entrepreneurs to shift from “survival to growth” and make a “big impact”.
A presentation at the function and a booklet released on the occasion said the RBI’s financial inclusion index surged from 43 in 2017 to 64 in 2024 with the implementation of the ‘PM Jan Dhan Yojna’ and other measures, it added.
It listed out various programmes launched for the welfare of farmers and said the Government increased the minimum support price (MSP) and fertiliser subsidy, which reduced their expenditure and increased income.
“Farmers now receive institutional support at every level of the process, from seed to the market,” it said, adding the Government also provided interest subsidy on Kisan credit card loans.
It said the Modi Government brought a “new momentum” for women’s empowerment since 2014 by taking various measures, while ‘PM Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan’ and ‘Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojna’ improved institutional healthcare and saved mothers’ lives.
“The number of women self-Help Groups (SHGs) rose from 2.25 crore in 2014 to 10.05 crore in 2024 due to various measures taken by the Modi Government. The number of Start-ups rose from 500 in 2014-15 to more than 1.61 lakh in 2021-22,’’ it said.
The valuation of Indian Start-ups significantly grew from USD 5 billion in 2014 to USD 450 billion in 2024.
Vaishnaw said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India has not only seen an economic transformation but also witnessed the empowerment of millions.
“India had never witnessed such progress before the Modi Government took over in 2014,” he said, adding, “The focus has always been on creating long-term, sustainable progress across all sectors, from infrastructure to welfare programs.”
Vaishnaw asserted that over the last 11 years, the Government has worked not only towards economic transformation but also for empowerment of millions to enhance the living standards of citizens, and improving security, expanding road and railway networks, as well as full electrification, reaching even the most remote areas.
Citing employment data from EPFO, he said these reflect greater job creation and heightened awareness of employee benefits. He added that at the same time, Modi led Government has spearheaded a series of infrastructure projects, including the Chenab Bridge, Atal Tunnel, and the Statue of Unity – all exemplifying India’s engineering excellence.
A core focus of the Government has been the empowerment of marginalized communities, including persons with disabilities, transgender individuals, and those from SC/ST/OBC groups. Access to essential amenities, such as clean water, electricity, healthcare, and digital services, has been expanded to millions of households.
India’s leadership in green energy was also showcased at the event with the Ministry stating that India continues to set new global benchmarks in sustainability, drawing admiration from international leaders.
As India prepares for its first independent human spaceflight and looks towards the Moon and beyond, the Government’s investment in space technology underscores the nation’s growing prominence on the global stage, said the Minister.
Guided by the principle of Antyodaya, the Government has strived for 100% saturation across all welfare schemes. From housing to healthcare and clean cooking fuel, millions of previously underserved families now have access to basic services, he said.
