India cannot bow its head, says Adhir, seeks PM’s statement on Trump-Kashmir row

NEW DELHI: India cannot ‘bow its head’ before the United States or any international force, Congress floor leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said on Tuesday in Lok Sabha raising the issue arising out of President Donald Trump’s statement that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked him to mediate on Kashmir dispute with Pakistan.
As soon as the House assembled to begin day’s proceedings, he demanded that Prime Minister should come to the House and make a statement on the matter.
“Hindustan kisi key saamney sar jhooka nahi sakta hae,” Mr Chowdhury said adding India is “not a weak country”.
The Speaker Om Birla, however, said the matter though is serious – he would allow the members to raise it in the House after completion of the Question Hour during Zero Hour.
He also said there are certain issues on which no member or party should try to draw any political mileage.
Making a brief intervention, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said, “If the opposition members are concerned about the issue, they can raise it at 12 noon after the completion of Question Hour. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, who is is the other House, will respond to members’ queries”.  (agencies)
