JAMMU, Feb 22: For the first time in the history of judiciary in the State hearing of cases was done through video conferencing.
Chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed held the court at Jammu while hearing some cases of Srinagar wing of the High Court. Hearing was conducted in the CJ’s Court at Jammu while the lawyers argued their cases from a court at Srinagar wing of the High Court.
The use of technology in the court processes has been the favorite subject of the Chief Justice and in this regard High Court has made a remarkable progress in the last one year. The use of video conference in court hearings will go a long way to quicken dispensation of justice in the State.
As of now, Judges have to move from Jammu to Srinagar and vice versa for hearing of cases and some of the cases which remain tied to a particular Judge in a wing of the High Court is listed only when that  Judge is available there. But now onwards, it will be possible to list those cases even if the Judge is sitting in another wing of the High Court.
This will not only quicken the justice delivery process but it will also avoid unnecessary movement of lawyers from Jammu to Srinagar and vice versa to pursue their cases. Eleven cases of Srinagar wing of the High Court were listed today which were heard by the Chief Justice using video conference and orders were passed in these cases.
