Impure water supply leads to health hazards in Jagti township: JTC

JAMMU, Mar 30: A meeting of Jagti Tenement Committee (JTC) and Soan Kashmir Front (SKF) was held under the chairmanship of its president, Shadi Lal Pandita. Addressing the meeting, Pandita alleged that impure drinking water is supplied to the Jagti township which has resulted into many health related problems to inmates of the township.
The JTC and SKF said that the lakhs of rupees are being spent through private contractors every month for bettering the water supply but the condition has not changed and people continue to get impure water. The meeting said in the rainy months water supply gets totally hampered as the silt accumulates in pipes and water tanks. The authorities despite the repeated pleas of the people have failed to find an everlasting solution to the problem, it added.
It also expressed concern over seepage of water from bath rooms which has been a continuous problem in the township, it said.
The meeting said that tall claims are being made about development in migrant camps but on ground nothing has been done.
Pandita appealed to Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha for immediate intervention and settlement of the problem once for all.
He also demanded enhancement of cash relief to relief holders to Rs 25,000 per month and settlement of other demands as well.
