JAMMU, Sept 1: An impressive Shoba Yatra on eve of Krishana Janam Ashtami was taken out here, today.
The Shoba Yatra started from the Geeta Bhawan Parade and it was organized by Shri Sanatan Dharam Sabha (SDS) in close coordination and support of various religious and social organizations including the Dharmarth Trust.
The Shoba Yatra started with performance of traditional Pooja at Geeta Bhawan in which prominent citizens, members of SDS, religious, social and political organizations participated.
Later the Shoba Yatra left via Shalamar Chowk, Indira Chowk, Hari Market reached the Raghunath Bazar where from the chariot of Lord led the Shoba yatra which was accompanied by some more Jhankis and members of Dharmarth Trust.

Earlier pooja was also held in a traditional way to Lord Krishna at Raghunath temple by members of Dharmarth Trust. The devotees participating in the Shoba yatra were reciting bhajans and religious hymns in praise of Lord Krishna. Attried in colorful costumes the children and other devotees were also dancing to the tune of drum beats enroute.
The special feature of this year’s Shoba Yatra was that a Jhanki on elephant also became its part. Besides, a jhanki of Radhay Sham on a 1937 model van also formed its part. Over 35 jhankis of various social, religious and cultural organizations depicting the different aspects of Lord Krishna’s life right from his birth participated in Shoba Yatra.
All the city routes where from the Shoba Yatra passed were fully decorated by the market associations and the local residents. Welcome gates were installed en-route while some social activists were seen busy in providing drinking water, fruits and prasahd to devotees participating in the Shoba yatra.
The people had made beeline right from Raghunath Bazar on entire route where from the Shoba Yatra passed to greet it and pay obeisance to Lord Krishna. At various places people were watching the entire scene from the roof tops of their houses and business establishments.
The people were also seen showering flowers on Shoba yatra at various places enroute.
They included a sizable number of women also.
The Pooja of Lord Krishna whose Swari was taken out in a fully decorated chariot from Raghunath Mandir was also performed at City Chowk, Purani Mandi, Dhonthli Bazar, Moti Bazar and other places.
The Shoba yatra passed from Rajinder Bazar, Kanak Mandi, Link road, Jain Bazar, Pacca Danga, Moti Bazar and later culminated at Raghunath Bazar.
The authorities had made elaborate arrangements for the Shoba Yatra and a big contingent of police and CRPF were accompanying it to avert any untoward incident.
The SDS president Bodh Raj and its general secretary, Prabhat Singh complimented the devotees, social and religious organizations who participated in the Shoba Yatra.
