JAMMU, Jan 16: An impressive Nagar Kirtan was taken out on the eve of Parkash Divas -the birth anniversary of Tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj here today.
The Nagar Kirtan started from Gurudwara Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Chand Nagar and after passing through various bazaars of the city it culminated at Gurudwara Singh Sabha Nanak Nagar. Thousands of Sikh devotees including men, women and children participated in Nagar Kirtan. Reciting Gurbani and singing bhajans in praise of Guru Maharaj, the Nagar Kirtan passed via Vivekananda Chowk, Jewel Chowk, Dogra Chowk, Bikram Chowk, Asia Hotel, Gole Market and Shiva Chowk before culminating at Gurudwara Singh Sabha, Nanak Nagar.
As usual, the Nagar Kirtan is every year taken out in advance of Parkash Divas of Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj, which falls on January 18. The Ragi Jathas from various parts of Punjab and J&K including Amritsar and Poonch participated in the Nagar Kirtan which was led by Panj Piyaras attired in colorful religious dresses. It was followed by the fully decorated Palki of Guru Granth Sahib.
The authorities had made elaborate arrangements for the Nagar Kirtan and to avert any untoward incident a big contingent of police was deployed on the route where from the Nagar Kirtan passed. The traffic also remained paralysed on BC road and other city roads. Though traffic was diverted to Tawi bridge from Gujjar Nagar yet huge jams were seen at different city routes.
The devotees were seen sweeping the road where from the Nagar Kirtan passed. Besides bursting crackers, the school children and Ghatka party also played Ghatka enroute. The various bazaar associations had erected welcome gates at different markets to greet the Nagar Kirtan. Besides, the stalls were also installed by them provide fruit and prashad to devotees participating in Nagar Kirtan. There was also a beeline of people on the city roads to greet the Nagar Kirtan.
The Nagar Kirtan was organized by Sikh Sangath. It may be recalled that Parkash Divas of Guru Gobind Singh Ji falls on January 18.
Reports coming from Poonch said that impressive Nagar Kirtan was also taken out in the city today on the eve of Parkash Divas. Thousands of Sikh devotees drawn from different parts of Poonch district participated in the Nagar Kirtan which started from Gurudwara Singh Sabha, Poonch and after passing through different bazaars a big religious congregation was held in front of Poonch Fort where the Sikh scholars and Gyanis threw light on the life history and teachings of Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj.
This was followed by playing of Ghatka by the Ghatka Party at Government Degree College Poonch for one hour. Later the Nagar Kirtan passed via Pritam Chwok, Court Bazar, PNB Bazar and culminated at Gurudwara Singh Sabha.
The Nagar Kirtan was led by Panj Piyaras followed by Swari of Guru Granth Sahib. Mahant Manjeet Singh Ji of Dera Nangali Sahib Poonch also participated in the Nagar Kirtan besides the civil and police officers.
