JAMMU, Jan 30: Taranjit Singh Tony, DDC Member Suchetgarh today condemned the draconian tax policies of J&K Administration being implemented on the behest of incumbent BJP Government at the Centre.
In a statement issued today, Tony said that the so-called ‘Achhe Din’ Government of BJP is hell-bent to force the common man to end the struggle of life as under this dispensation only air is free, rest everything has been brought under hefty tax regime as the latest in the series are the Solid Waste Management Tax for almost all the categories of people in Jammu by JMC and another unheard and unknown tax for National Highway usage. He said that if the people will not mount pressure on the BJP Government it will make ‘breathing oxygen’ also a taxable entity.
The DDC Member said that BJP Government’s new year gift is compulsory Solid Waste Management tax which every entity whether a common house owner, a rehriwalla or a hotelier will have to pay as per the stipulated rate fixed by the civic body which is infamous for according poor services and facilities to the Jammuites. He alleged that the NHAI has issued notices to some business establishments situated along the National Highway 44 demanding taxes for using the highway despite the fact that hefty toll is already being charged at the scores of toll plazas in the UT and mounting amount of road tax is also usurped during the registration process of vehicles.
“Under this logic-less Government run by ‘Thugs’, days are not far when there will be a tax for using lanes and drains as well”, Tony said, adding that directionless policies of BJP Government has in actual made this dispensation apprehensive and that is the reason the people sitting at helm are imposing unreasonable taxes on the poor population. He questioned the BJP leadership that what it has done for providing education, healthcare and jobs to common man in the last over seven years?
Tony also raised serious concern over hike in service tax on the Government registered contractors from 12 to 18 per cent as the contractors are providing only their services. Besides, imposition of taxes on the national highway exposes hollow slogans of BJP ‘One Nation, One Tax’.
