Sir,
Goods and Services Tax (GST) was implemented in the country on July 01, 2017, which replaced multiple taxes collected by multiple authorities and thus, created a single market in India. Despite being implemented all over India, its introduction in Jammu and Kashmir is yet to get its approval from the State Government.
Introduction of GST is a huge and applaudable step being taken by our Government. It will be a symbol of united India, as it will create a common market and thus, only the particular tax, fixed for respective goods and services will have to be paid, throughout India. Even costs will be cut down by 20-30% on many goods and services. Moreover, tax evasion will be reduced, hence increasing the revenue of the Government by manifold. GST will replace 17 indirect taxes and thus, make life simpler for both, the consumers and the producers. Even the capital goods investment will be boosted.
It is urged to the State Government to immediately give its approval to the implementation of GST in the state, without any further delay. If the Government will delay its decision any further, then life of the common man will be badly affected in numerous ways. Consumers will have to pay dual tax while purchasing goods and services in the State, while the rest of India started paying pay single tax. This will push the consumers out of J&K’s market, which will even affect the producers and sellers. Hence, it will be to a vicious cycle of loss. Entire trade and industry will take hit by the delayed or no implementation of GST in the state.
