JAMMU, Nov 8: The Committee on Government Assurances of Legislative Assembly today directed the PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Departments to fulfill all the pending Government assurances given on the floor of the House from time to time.
The Committee which met here under the chairmanship of MLA, Vikar Rasool Wani today discussed the Action Taken Reports on previous Government Assurances related to the PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Department.
Legislators, Javid Ahmed Baig, Mohammad Abass Wani, Dina Nath Bhagat, Devinder Kumar Manyal and Dr Gagan Bhagat attended the meeting and gave their suggestions to make the Committee more vibrant and result oriented.
The members also raised various issues with regard to provision of safe drinking water and irrigation facilities to people in their respective constituencies.
The Committee also sought Action Taken Reports of the directions given by the Committee from time to time for scrutiny.
Directing the concerned for taking up necessary steps to resolve the issues at the earliest highlighted by the legislators, the Chairman said that the assurances given at the floor of the House should be implemented in letter and spirit. He also called for constitution of committee to conduct the inspection of muck illegally extracted from National Highway from Udhampur to Banihal.
Calling for repair of defunct hand pumps, the Committee directed the concerned for installation of new mast hand pumps in the State for the convenience of people. It also asked the concerned for expediting the pace of construction work on ongoing Water Supply Schemes.
Commissioner Secretary, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sanjeev Verma briefed the Committee about the steps taken by the department regarding the pending assurances besides physical and financial achievements registered by the department.
