Implement anti-riot law to help Muzaffarnagar victims: NCM

MUZAFFARNAGAR, Nov 17:  An anti-riot law should be urgently implemented in the country to ensure proper rehabilitation of people displaced during the Muzaffanagar riots, NCM said today.

National Commission for Minorities chairman Wajahat Habibullah recommended speedy rehabilitation of the riot-affected people according to the provisions of the proposed Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence (Access to Justice and Reparation) Bill, 2011.

Habibullah also expressed concern over the delay in arrest of accused in the cases of rape and sexual harassment even two months after the incident.

According to Special Investigation Team sources, police had registered 13 cases of rape and sexual harassment and named 111 people in different places in the district, but no one has been arrested in this connection.

The NCM chairman said the state government should not coerce displaced victims to return to their villages when they are not confident about the security situation there. (PTI)
