SRINAGAR, Feb 9: Police in Budgam today foiled a black-marketing attempt by seizing 800 kgs of rice meant for Government ration depots.
During the operation, the accused individuals involved in the crime were also apprehended.
Authorities reported that a police party from PP Soibugh, stationed at a checkpoint established at Arath Crossing, intercepted a vehicle (load carrier) bearing Chassis Number BBXWRC66797, with three individuals on board.
“They have been identified as Nisar Ahmad Lone, son of Ab Rashid Lone, Ab Qayoom Bhat, son of Sonaullah Bhat, both residents of Singhpora Pattan, and Abdul Majid Wani, son of Ghulam Rasool Wani, resident of Arath Budgam,” police stated.
During the search, the police party recovered 16 sacks containing 50 kg of rice each.
“During preliminary questioning, it emerged that they had bought the rice from a fair shop at Arath, which is run by Gh Nabi Wani, son of Ghulam Rasool Wani, resident of Arath Budgam.”
All four accused persons have been arrested, and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized, police confirmed.
Accordingly, a case under FIR No. 41/2024, involving relevant sections of the law, has been registered at Police Station Budgam, and an investigation has been initiated.
