Illegal workshop of sweets sealed

JAMMU, July 24: Food Safety wing of Food & Drugs Administration, J&K today sealed a workshop of sweets in Talab Tillo area.
On the basis of a specific complaint, a team of Food Safety Officers under the supervision of Dr Parvesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, Municipal limits, Jammu, carried out surprise inspection in the area of the Talab Tillo.
During the inspection, one person namely Sujan Singh son of Jaswant Singh was found manufacturing sweets under unhygienic conditions near Panjpeer, Gole Puli, Talab Tillo, without any Food license as mandated under FSS Act 2006 & Regulations made there under.
The team of Food Safety Officers immediately sealed the premises where the illegal manufacturing was being done and lifted two statutory samples of Gulab Jamun and Rasgullas for analysis in the Public Health Laboratory. 280 kg of sweets were also destroyed on the spot to avoid its human consumption.
Further, one sample of carbonated water (Campa Brand) was lifted during the inspection which was referred to the Public Health Laboratory, Jammu for analysis.
The Food Business Operators were advised by the inspecting team to comply with the mandatory provisions of the Food Law to avoid any legal action which includes imprisonment upto 6 months and fine upto Rs 5 Lakhs.
