Bhadarwah, Feb 23: Tightening the noose around the necks of illegal timber traders, Forest Department officials of Bhadarwah Forest Division (BFD) raided sawmill which was operating discreetly in Bhadarwah town area and seized logs worth lakhs.
Acting on a tip-off on the illegal sawmill located near Chinar Mohallah on Seri Bazaar-Sartingal Road, a joint operation team officials including SP Bhadarwah Raj Singh Gouria, Tehsildar Zeeshan Tahir, sleuths of BFD and Forest Protection Force (FPF) headed by DFO Chander Shekhar launched the raid this morning.
During the raid the officials came across huge logs being transported and saw wood worth lakhs stored at sawmill and seized.
“A number of machinery and wood cutting equipment were also found from the spot and got seized, we completely uprooted the illegally run saw mill”, said Chander Shekhar DFO Bhadarwah.
“The illegal saw mill was being run by Nawaz Ganai of Mohalla Haveli, who is a big fish and we have registered a case under Indian Forest Act against the culprit”, the officer added.
While the officials have sealed the mill, efforts are underway to trace its owner who managed to escape ahead of the raid.
