IIPA organizes webinar on ‘Cyber Security’

JAMMU, July 12: Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) JK Branch organized a panel discussion on “Cyber Security” which was chaired by Dr Ashok Bhan, former J&K DGP.
The panelist included S K Bhalla (Director, Cyber & Information Security Cell, Union Ministry of Home Affairs) and Amit Dubey, a renowned National Security Expert and Crime Investigator from New Delhi.
Speaking during the webinar, Bhalla highlighted that more than 60% of the cyber crimes in the country correspond to financial frauds and the intensity of such crimes have increased during COVID-19 outbreak. He emphasized on the role of Cyber Division of MHA in protecting the citizens from potential threat of cyber crimes. The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (www.cybercrime.gov.in) is an initiative of the Government to register digital FIR with special focus on cyber crimes against women and children, he added.
Dr Ashok Bhan said that individual privacy in the networked boundary-less world is a utopian thought and therefore cyber safety and security is essential. He proposed the idea of creating a national level database of cyber criminals and their activities should be tracked using high end technological solutions for proactive response in case of such crimes.
Amit Dubey in his address talked about the relevance of data in the digital space and using case studies exhibited how international companies are capturing the data of people across the world. He was of the opinion that such information can play a vital role in the investigation of cyber crimes.
BR Sharma, Chairman PSC and Chairman IIPA, JKRB in his address opined that digital capabilities of individuals, institutions and Government agencies should be enhanced to prevent vulnerabilities. He further said that the proposed Personal Data and Protection Bill, 2019 will emerge as a legal framework for data protection in India.
Earlier, Vikrant Kuthiala, treasurer, IIPA JKRB presented welcome address while the panel discussion culminated with
vote of thanks presented by Prof Alka Sharma, Honorary Secretary IIPA JKRB. Dr Anil Gupta, joint secretary IIPA JKRB coordinated the webinar.
The panel discussion was followed by a lively discussion wherein a number of queries were raised by the participants to sort out the cyber issues from the experts.
