IIM Sirmaur bags ‘One District One Green Champion Award’

SIRMAUR, June 19: IIM Sirmaur has bagged the ‘One District One Green Champion’ Award by MGNCRE, Union Ministry of Education, under Swachhta Action Plan 2020-21.
The Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE) has released a list of 400 colleges from across India for the year 2020-21 which actively participated to keep their campuses clean and sanitized.
IIM Sirmaur became the cleanest campus in Sirmaur District and among the top 7 clean campuses in Himachal Pradesh. IIM Sirmaur currently operates from its temporary campus at Paonta Sahib in the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh.
IIM Sirmaur has a strong focus on environmental awareness and sustainable living. The campus follows solid waste segregation and has a dedicated Sewage Treatment Plant. Moreover, under beautification and biodiversity conservation of the campus, garden wastes are being used for bio composting in campus for gardening purposes and beautification. The adoption of the organic method of gardening helps in reducing the carbon footprints inside the campus.
Centre for Sustainability & Environmental Management (CSEM), IIM Sirmaur organized COVID-19 awareness and donation camp of essentials, plantation drives and several awareness events (seminars, webinars, workshops, etc.) on wastewater treatment, organic farming, plastic recycling, solar lamp assembly, sustainability, waste minimization, etc., where renowned experts from academia, and Industry shared their valuable inputs. Also, the institute has registered for ‘Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan’ (flagship programme, by the Ministry of Education) in 2019 and actively working by adopting neighboring villages in District Sirmaur.
Sankalp, the CSR Committee of IIM Sirmaur, is the embodiment of Institute’s spirit for significantly contributing to the society. From cleanliness drives to blood donation camps, Sankalp strives to inculcate the culture of ‘Social Betterment’ in tomorrow’s pioneers. The CSR Committee organized blood donation camp, World Environment Health week, donation drive for flood affected at Bihar and Assam, clothes donation drives for underprivileged, ‘UDVEG: Run for Unity’, a mini-marathon, etc.
The new permanent campus of IIM Sirmaur incorporates sustainability aspects from planning to designing phases focusing on GRIHA ratings, rain water harvesting and solid waste management and the like.
On the occasion, Professor Neelu Rohmetra, Director, IIM Sirmaur congratulated IIM Sirmaur fraternity and acknowledged their contributions for this achievement. She wished that IIM Sirmaur is able to achieve many more accolades in various such initiatives.
