IIM Jammu along with IIT hosts National Communal Harmony Week

JAMMU, Nov 23: IIM Jammu, along with IIT Jammu, hosted an event to celebrate the National Harmony Week.
The event was graced by Brigadier Gurmeet Singh Shan, Director, Sainik Seva Board, as the guest of honor and Prof Ashoke K Sarkar, Dean Administration, IIT Jammu. The event was also attended by Prof B S Sahay – Director, IIM Jammu, Prof Jabir Ali, Chairperson, MBA Placements; Prof Manoj Kumar, Chairperson, MBA with other faculty members and students of both the respective institutes.
The program began with a mesmerizing dance performance by students from both the institutes, followed by a play to deliver the message about cultural harmony performed by IIM Jammu’s Drama Club. The students addressed the need for harmony among the diverse population throughout the country and around the world using poetry, dance, music, and drama. IIM Jammu and IIT Jammu students put up outstanding performances to deliver a message to the masses and promote communal harmony.
Prof B S Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, encouraged the students to practice oneness. He stated that India is a great country with a lot of diversity, and harmony is imperative to make India the finest country. “India is important to us and that nothing else matters. India is in the first place. Forever and eternally,” he said.
The guest of honor, Brigadier Gurmeet Singh, in his address, spoke about the value of camaraderie and how it helped him during his time in uniform. He stated that communal harmony is core for survival. He stressed that in order to eradicate the vestiges of hatred, one must be the change.
Prof Ashoke K Sarkar, Dean (Administration), IIT Jammu, averred that celebrating communal harmony is not enough and efforts should be made to preach it as well.
Prof Jabir Ali, Chairperson, MBA Placements, expressed that the heart oversees caste and religion while making relationships. He went on to quote Mahatma Gandhi saying, “Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed. Always aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well”.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof B S Sahay.
