IIIM celebrates Foundation Day

JAMMU, Dec 1: 59th Foundation Day of CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, was celebrated at the Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM) Jammu here today.
Prof Nazeer Ahmed, Vice Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology, Kashmir, was the chief guest of this function. As part of celebrations, different cultural and sports activities were held in which Scientific, Technical and administrative staff, beside research scholars and students, participated.
Prof. Nazeer Ahmed delivered the foundation day lecture entitled, “Horticulture for Nutritional and Livelihood Security”. He explained the importance of Horticulture Science for the livelihood security in a country like India. He further said that while 60 percent of India’s population is directly dependent on agriculture, its contribution to the country’s GDP is only 20 percent, indicating overdependence, unemployment and underemployment in the sector. With more than half the country’s populations’ direct dependence on this sector, it is hypothesized that with development in Agriculture and Horticulture and related livelihoods, India will see holistic development.
Earlier, Dr Ram Vishwakarma, Director, IIIM Jammu, introduced the chief guest, Prof Nazeer Ahmed, to the audience.
Prominent among others, who attended the function, included Dr O P Vidyarthi, Dr Y S Bedi, Dr Suresh Chandra, Er Rajneesh Anand, Dr D M Mondhe, Dr I Khan, Dr G D Singh, Pankaj Pahadur (COA), Dr Zabeer Ahmed, Dr Parthasarthi Das, Sunil Kumar (F&AO) and Praphul Kumar (SPO).
Er Abdul Rahim, Head PME division presented the vote of thanks and Neelam Sharma conducted the proceedings.
On the Foundation Day, about 600 students from different colleges and schools of Jammu city were also taken on a guided visit to the various research divisions and medicinal farms of the institute. The Scientists and Technical staff demonstrated their indoor and field research activities to the visiting students and other dignitaries.
Late in the evening, a colourful cultural programme was also performed by the children of RRL High School and research scholars of IIIM.
