JAMMU, Dec 23: The valedictory function of the two week interdisciplinary refresher course in Human Rights, organized by the UGC-HRDC and PG Department of Home Science, University of Jammu, was held today.
The chief guest on the occasion was Manish Kumar Sinha, IGP Crime J&K. Tracing the historical evolution of the modern day movement for human rights to the UN declaration of 1948, he emphasized on the need for the practical approach in sensitizing the society with regard to the sensitive issues of human rights.
While quoting many examples from his experiences in the Police service, he drew parallels between the theoretical connotations, legal frameworks and the actual on ground difficulties in safe guarding the human rights. Sinha also distributed certificates amongst the successful candidates.
Prof Naresh Padha, Dean Research Studies, JU, who was guest of honor in the function, advised that faculty should strive to improve the quality of their research publication.
Dr Samridhi Arora, Associate Professor, Department of Home Science and Course Coordinator, presented a report of the refresher course.
The key resource persons for the course were Prof Siddiq Wahid (former Vice Chancellor Islamic University Kashmir), Prof Emeritus Virendar Kumar (Punjab University Chandigarh), Prof Vijay Nagpal (Punjab University Chandigarh), Dr Aman Hingorani (Advocate, Supreme Court of India), Dr Bharti Kumar (NLU, New Delhi), Prof Rekha Chowdhary (former DRS, JU), Prof Kulwant Singh (Director, DDE, JU), Prof Neeru Sharma (Home Science Deptt, JU), Prof Vishwaraksha (Director Centre for Women Studies, JU), Dr Savita Nayyar (Deptt of Law, JU), Muqbil Buhran (IIM, Jammu), Shiekh Shakeel Ahmed (Sr Advocate, High Court, Jammu), Mandeep Reen (Sr Advocate, High Court, Jammu), Pardeep Dutta (Sr Journalist), Manjari Singh (Child Line), Neha Gandotra (NDF), and Stanzin Saldon.
An abstract book containing the abstracts of the presentations of the resource persons and the participants was also released on the occasion.
Earlier, Ranjeet Kalra, Officiating Director UGC-HRDC, JU, formally welcomed the guest and also introduced the chief guest to the audience. Dr Sarika Manhas, Course co-coordinator, presented the formal vote of thanks.
