IGP reviews security preparedness in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 17: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi, today chaired a high-level security review meeting at PCR to finalise arrangements for forthcoming events across the Valley.
The meeting was attended by senior officers from multiple security and intelligence agencies, including the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Army, besides district SSPs and other senior officials.
The deliberations focused on reviewing and strengthening security arrangements in view of the upcoming events, with emphasis on optimising deployment at critical and sensitive locations.
Birdi directed officers to intensify surveillance on anti-national elements and enhance area domination in their respective jurisdictions.
He stressed the need to bolster security around vulnerable installations, including prominent tourist destinations, to ensure a safe environment for visitors.
He also called for strict monitoring along inter-district boundaries to prevent any suspicious movement.
Special directions were issued for effective traffic management in Srinagar city, with instructions to implement a comprehensive plan to ease congestion and ensure smooth vehicular movement.
The IGP also reviewed preparedness for Hajj arrangements, directing officers to ensure adequate security, facilitation and coordination at all designated points for the safe movement of pilgrims.
He further instructed district heads to maintain strict vigil on social media platforms to curb misinformation that could impact public order, and called for intensified cordon and search operations, particularly in sensitive areas and along national highways.
