Srinagar, Apr 26: IGNOU Regional Centre (RC) Srinagar today organized the 35th convocation ceremony at Tagore Hall while the function was celebrated at the national level and simultaneously held at IGNOU’s 32 Regional Centres across the country.
The guest of honour for the IGNOU RC Srinagar programme was the Director, National Institute of Technology Srinagar (NIT) Prof. Rakesh Sehgal and the Director-General of J&K IMPARD Saurabh Bhagat was the chief speaker on the occasion.

Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar Dr Kamlesh Meena formally welcomed the guests and presented the report card and progress report in his presidential speech.
The chief speaker of the function of IGNOU RC Srinagar Saurabh Bhagat talked about the role of IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar in Kashmir valley for giving higher education opportunities to the common masses, youngsters of Kashmir valley and women and girls.
He mentioned the work and efforts of IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar, under the leadership of Regional Director RC Srinagar Dr Kamlesh Meena by speaking that Dr Meena has carried out the mandate of the University for imparting higher education at doorsteps with the view to democratize the higher education among the masses of Kashmir valley.
The degrees to awardees of the 35th convocation were presented by Rakesh Sehgal Director NIT, Shri Saurabh Bhagat Director-General IMPA and Regional Director IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar Dr Kamlesh Meena.
Prof. Rakesh Sehgal said that IGNOU is the biggest platform for providing higher education as well as setting up across the country while he elaborated on the contribution of IGNOU in terms of study material, academic programmes, easy reach to the unreached segments of society especially economically backward, marginalized and poor group of society.
He appreciated the role of Regional Director Dr Kamlesh Meena particularly for the learners of Kashmir valley by reaching every nook and corner of the valley to ensure the easy access for getting higher education opportunities to the common masses, Government employees, business communities, housewives and people of remote areas by offering the higher education through Regional Centre Srinagar
On the occasion, at the national level, the total number of awardees was 291588 in various programmes across the nation and the total number of awardees at the 35th convocation ceremony of IGNOU RC Srinagar Kashmir was 10368, while one of the learner’s Niyaz Ahmad Yatoo from Nagam, Chadoora of District Budgam, bagged the Gold Medal in Master of Anthropology (MAAN).
