UDHAMPUR, Feb 23: With an aim of sharing information regarding enrollment of Jail inmates in various courses of IGNOU for the session- January 2016, an induction session was organized at IGNOU Special Study Centre, District Jail Udhampur.
In this programme, 31 Jail inmates were enrolled in various courses of IGNOU, such as CIT, BPP, BDP, MPS, CRD and MEG.
On the occasion, Hilal Ahmad Rather, Superintendent District Jail Udhampur, emphasized on the need to adopt modern techniques for improving and having higher qualification. He stressed that more and more Jail inmates should take part in various courses, which are now being offered at Government Degree College Udhampur by the IGNOU Centre.
Pertinent to mention that Coordinator IGNOU 1250 Government Degree College Udhampur, has given his written consent that counseling in all the courses of IGNOU, which are available at Udhampur College, shall also be provided to the Jail inmates at Special Study Centre 1256-D District Jail Udhampur as and when required.
Jail Superintendent Rather also said that focus on Reformatory and Rehabilitative programme will be top priority on the department’s agenda. He dealt in length with the essential of three Rs i.e. Rehabilitation, Reformation and Reintegration of the inmates and the steps taken for achieving the main objective.
Atul Gupta, Accounts Officer and Abdul Khaliq Mir, Assistant Superintendent, were also present in the said programme.
At the end, all the Jail inmates promised that they would never waste their time and will devote their maximum time in studies so that objective of the J&K Prison Department for their betterment and welfare could be accomplished exclusively.
