IFS probationers visit Inter State Forest Check Post Lakhanpur

KATHUA, June 7: The Indian Forest Services (IFS) probationers of 2015-17 batch who are undergoing two years training in Indira Gandhi National Forests Academy ( IGNFA) visited the Inter-State Forest Check Post at Lakhanpur of Kathua Forest Division today as a part of their Hill Tour .
The probationers led by their tour co-ordinator Dr. B Balaji,  (Who happens to be J&K Cadre IFS officer and a former DFO -Kathua) were  warmly received by the staff of Lakhanpur forest check post led by the DFO-Kathua Ashwani Kumar, SFS  .
The officers from the other wings of Forest fraternity viz. Miss. Priyanka Sareen SFS – Wild Life Warden Kathua,  Sagar Singh SFS – DFO-Social Forestry -Kathua were also present during the visit of the IFS probationers.
The probationers were given a brief introduction about the Kathua Forest Division in general and the operation of the Lakhanpur Forest Check Post in particular by the DFO -Kathua, who also briefed the probationers about the Indo-Pak LoC Trade   with special emphasis on Trade of Minor Forest Products (MFPs) and other Non-Timber Forest Products ( NTFPs) . The probationers were also shown the various samples of the MFP commodities maintained the check post by the Range Officer -Lakhanpur  Munish Gupta and a brief note for the same was also provided to them. The DFO Social Forestry -Kathua presented a brief note regarding the functioning of the department and various  afforestation activities carried out by department like Farm Forestry, Institutional Forestry and the NH median plantation etc.
Then, the Wild Life Warden -Kathua also gave a brief introduction about the functioning of the department and challenges faced by them in tackling with the Man-Animal Conflicts issues especially of Leopard etc., she also made aware the probationers regarding the various wetlands of the Jammu area and the Ramsar sites as well.
It is worthwhile to mention that the IFS probationers will visit the various regions of the State under the Hill Tour upto Kargil and Leh as well.
