IDS set up post-Kargil conflict marks 17th Raising Day

NEW DELHI, Oct 1:
The Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) set up after the Kargil operation marked its anniversary today by paying homage to the fallen soldiers of the armed forces.
Chief of the IDS to the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC) Lt General Satish Dua laid a wreath at the ‘Amar Jawan Jyoti’ at the India Gate here to commemorate the IDS’ 17th Raising Day.
Senior officers of the Army, Navy and Air Force of the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) were also present on the occasion.
A tri-services guard of honour was held to pay tribute to soldiers killed in operations, the Defence Ministry said in a statement.
The Government had taken a decision in October 2001 to create the HQ IDS in the aftermath of 1999 ‘Operation Vijay’ in Kargil, it said.
“The main objective was to promote synergy among the three services and to integrate these with the Ministry of Defence. The overarching aim of the IDS is to achieve ‘Victory through Jointness’,” the statement said. (PTI)
