‘Lift siege, release all political leaders’

JAMMU, Aug 10: National Conference has reiterated its demand of lifting siege over Jammu and Kashmir and sought immediate release of the party leaders including party president Dr Farooq Abdullah and vice president Omar Abdullah from continued detention after robbing of the special entity of the state.
“The idea of secular and democratic India is in peril in this part of the country which is undergoing most traumatic phase of its history”, the senior leaders said in a resolution adopted at a meeting at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here this afternoon.
The leaders expressed anguish over detention of hundreds of National Conference leaders in the Valley, Jammu region and Ladakh, saying this is chilling and unprecedented. The prevailing situation is worse than the 1975 emergency with tragic difference of Jammu and Kashmir losing its identity and stature. The dejected people, irrespective of region and religion, are feeling deprived of their existence in the wake of harsh measures unleashed by the BJP.
The NC leaders sought immediate release of the political leaders of all hues, especially in view of ensuing Eid and called for lifting the siege in the dumb struck state.
With restrictions having been imposed on the movement of senior provincial leaders, the meeting was attended by State secretary Rattan Lal Gupta, Th Kashmira Singh, Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Rachpal Singh, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, Jugal Mahajan, Brij Mohan Sharma, Qazi Jalal Ud Din, Vipan Pal Sharma, Ch Mohd Shaffi, Ram Pal, Haroon, Chander Mohan Sharma, Chaman Lal Bhagat, Anil Dhar, Satwant Kour Dogra, Bimla Luthra, Dilshad Malik, Gurdeep Singh Sasan, Mohinder Singh, Bharti Sharma, Dr Kamal Arora, Abdul Gani Malik, Vijay Lochan, Surinder Singh Bunty, Pardeep Bali, Reeta Gupta, Romy Khajuria, G H Malik, Master Noor Hussain, Jagjeevan Lal, Sunil Verma, Dr  Gagan Bhagat, Swarn Latta, Haji Mohd Hussain, Ajeet Kumar Sharma, Dharamveer Singh Jamwal, Mohinder Gupta, Sardar Narinder Singh Bhagat and   Col (Retd) Rashid Ahmed.
