JAMMU, Aug 10: Prof Bhim Singh, Chief Patron of National Panthers Party has asked the Union Government to explain why only Leh and Kargil districts have been declared part of the new Ladakh Union Territory whereas 10 districts of Gilgit and Baltistan, which are now under Pak occupation, and areas of Aksai Chin, have not been included in the new arrangement for J&K.
India has 222,236 square kms in its control whereas PoK has 13,297 square Kms. Aksai China 37,244 square kms. Gilgit and Baltistan 72,971 square Kms.
“The Bill on re-organization has proposed 24 seats for PoK but is silent on Gilgit, Baltistan and Aksai Chin. Why there is no seat for them? How does the Union Government justify only 24 seats for PoK? The Bill is also silent on delimitation of constituencies in the areas of Pak and China occupied Kashmir also,” he said alleging that the Government has surrendered to China and closed its eyes on Gilgit and Baltistan.
“Why have been we deprived of Gilgit, Baltistan and Aksai Chin from our jurisdiction? Is it not mandatory for the Government to include them and also why Ladakh has been deprived of Assembly seats? Is it not mockery of democracy that even in areas where people had MLAs, now there will be none?” he further asked.
Prof Bhim Singh appealed to the President of India, Ramnath Kovind to hold an urgent meeting of all ex-legislators of J&K as well as the representatives of all recognized political parties, including Hurriyat Conference to seek their opinion to make J&K a peace-loving State.
