JAMMU, Dec 14: Government is restructuring and strengthening the mechanism of Anganwari Centres to make it vibrant and more responsive to the targeted segments of the under-privileged segments of society.
“By putting the Integrated Child Development Scheme in a mission mode the beneficiaries will immensely get benefitted from various schemes tailored for their upliftment”, Secretary Social Welfare M.S. Rather said while taking appraisal of the centrally sponsored programmes across the State.
He sought effective implementation of the scheme aimed at making the Anganwari Centres hub of multiple activities with focus on satiating economic aspirations of the poor. He said the scheme is essentially aimed at bringing convergence of ICDS with NRHM, SSA, MGNREGA etcetera. In addition, the ambitious programme aims at undertaking childcare and nutrition counseling services besides increasing investment in infrastructure and childcare facilities, generating public awareness and seeking massive participation.
Mr Rather elaborated that the scheme has been designed to address the maternal and child malnutrition and the mission mode would make it more effective.
The Secretary exhorted upon the officers to evolve a self-regulatory mechanism to get the department in a better working mode so that the objective of empowering weaker sections is achieved in a specified time frame. He asked them to have feedback from the stakeholders and PRIs for effective and result oriented implementation of programmes. He asked them to ensure regular monitoring by undertaking surprise inspections so that the scheme becomes an effective medium of change. He directed the field agencies to gear up their activities at the grass roots level and take stringent action against those whose performance remains wanting.
Reviewing the status of nutrition in all the districts of Jammu division, the Secretary said that a concrete policy is being devised to further streamline distribution of nutrition with special thrust on its quality. He asked the officers to accord equal focus on other significant components of ICDS programme like health services and check ups of children and expecting and lactating mothers, pre schooling, hygiene etc while concentrating on nutrition.
Addressing the meeting, Director SWD, M.S.Bhatti, highlighted the activities of the department and impressed upon the officers to consider their job as their prime and moral concern for better results.
