KATRA, Oct 26: Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs Government of India under its Horizon Series showcased ‘Gulab Gatha’ at Matrika Auditorium SMVDU, here.
This exclusive showcasing of Gulab Gatha was supported by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra.
On the occasion, Dr. Varun Kumar Tripathi Head, Department of Philosophy and Culture Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences SMVD University dwelt in detail about the life and contribution of Maharaja Gulab Singh in creation of the largest princely State of India namely Jammu & Kashmir.
Welcoming the august gathering, the Regional Director of ICCR Jammu & Kashmir Balwant Thakur said that showcasing of ‘Gulab Gatha’ in SMVDU should be seen as one of the rarest opportunity being offered by ICCR for the reason that students community hardly get to know about the local history and culture of the State as the same is not taught in schools out here.
The film ‘Gulab Gatha’- a production of Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust, conceptualized, scripted and designed by Balwant Thakur is based on the life and struggle of Maharaja Gulab Singh. It is about the journey of a soldier who achieves great success at everything he initiated. His unquestionable obligatory obedience towards Lahore Durbar, his unconditional sacrifice and his conception of a kingdom has been regarded and given value in this.
The most noteworthy part of the film was the dynamic acting by the local artists who simply created a magic on screen with their highly professional performances. Sunil Kumar Palwal, a meritorious pass out of FTII and popular TV/Film actor won the appreciation of all for portraying different shades of the life of Maharaja Gulab Singh. The prominent amongst others who gave remarkable performances included Arvind Anand, Madan Rangeela, Janak Khajuria, Anil Tickoo, Neeraj Kant, Subash Jamwal, Sumeet Sharma, Gaurav Jamwal, Rahul Sharma, Aftab Singh Chauhan, Meera Tapasvi, Aarushi Thakur Rana, and Gauri Thakur.
