JAMMU, June 27: Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, Regional Office, Jammu, hosted a `Kavi Sammelan & Mushaira’ programme today under “Horizon Series” in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
In the programmes, eminent poets from Nami Dogra Sanstha were invited for presenting exclusive performance. The poets who recited their poems, included Inderjeet Kesar, Bhupinder Singh Jamwal, Randhir Singh Raipura, Capt Lalit Sharma, Sham Talib and Dr Chanchal Sharma.
The performances started with poetry “Apne Ehsaas Rolne Gi Man Kare” by Sham Talib and touched a crescendo when Yash Pal Yash recited “Tarey Sounda Pakhroo Jaghdey”.
In his address, N K Shil, Regional Director, Indian Council for Cultural Relations and Regional Passport Officer, Jammu, said that since its inception in July 2012, ICCR has been successfully conducting cultural programmes every month under “Horizon Series” and so far 90 such programmes have been conducted with an aim to promote communal harmony, peace in the society and enhance shared understanding and intercultural bond among the varied sections of the society.
Further, he added that the larger idea is to make continued efforts to bring the whole nation together through cultural initiatives and simultaneously promote local culture, give exposure to local talents in the field of art, music, dance and drama.
Mr Shil also recounted activities undertaken so far by the ICCR to this effect and the efforts being made by MEA for pursuing to augment India’s cultural diplomacy through cultural and educational initiatives showcasing greater Indian rich heritage and multifarious culture.
Prominent persons who were present in the programme, included Lokesh Chander, Sanjeev Sagar, Usha Kiran and Harish Kaila. The programme was anchored by Yash Paul Yash while the vote of thanks was presented by the Regional Director, ICCR Regional office Jammu.
