JAMMU, Nov 16: International Centre for Cross Cultural Research and Human Resource Management (ICccR & HRM), University of Jammu, today organized an interaction on “Career Development and Future Workplaces” for the students of MBA (International Business).
The interaction was organized under the “Corporate-Academia Interactions”, wherein the underlying objective of the interaction was to acquaint students with the emerging trends in labour market and resultant career choices and paths to be developed upon for managing their careers.
The resource persons for the session were Raman Kalotra, Deputy General Manager (Human Resources), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, Gaurav Kohli, Junior Manager, PGCIL and Pradeep of PGCIL.
Speaking on the occasion, Raman Kalotra highlighted the importance of career management and stressed upon the need for placing careers in industries that are employee centric and enable professionals to develop competencies for future career advancements. The resource person also mentioned that early career development holds out the possibility of growing critical skills (cognitive and work integrated) within the individuals, which are often not available on the external labour market, thereby making it inevitable to recognize career development as an important corporate engagement intervention.
He encouraged the students to make shift from careers that are generic in nature and redundant from industry perspective. Pursuing careers in an era of disruptive technologies require career initiation in terms of Start-Up creation, entrepreneurial ventures and robust business models that sustain market dynamism and competition.
Professor Deepak Raj Gupta, Director, ICccR & HRM, JU, deliberated upon the relevance of corporate academia interactions that bring in industry mentoring and perspectives in early stages of career development amongst the students for acquiring future corporate responsibilities. He also stressed upon the need for converging the corporate-academia interactions into sustainable relationships that embrace placements, student internships and corporate assignments.
