SRINAGAR:  Terming the assault on 17 Gujjar girls belonging to poor families by the Warden of a government Hostel in Srinagar as brutal, Education Minister Naeem Akhtar today said strict action will be taken against the accused.  The Minister, who was replying to a question by National Conference (NC) MLA Shamima Firdous, immediately after the Question Hour concluded in the Legislative Assembly, expressed shock over the incident and said such psychopath (warden) will not be allowed to work in the administrative system.

“I visited the hospital in the morning. As an Education Minister, I hang my head in shame. The warden seems to be a psychopath. She has brutally assaulted the students. Seven girls have been hospitalised. Two have plasters. One has received injuries to her stomach,” he said.

Asserting that the Warden has been suspended and an FIR has been registered against her, Mr Akhtar said the accused has been evading arrest and dodging the police. “She has gone underground. Police have raided many of her hideouts, but, she has been changing them frequently. But police is zeroing on her,” he added.

Seventeen Gujjar girls belonging to poor families were injured when they were physically assaulted by the Warden of a government Hostel of Tulsibagh in Srinagar.

The girls are studying in Government Girls Higher SecondarySchool (GGHSS), Raj Bagh.  The Principal of the school yesterday after looking at the condition of the girls, shifted them to a hospital and also lodged a police complaint against the accused. (AGENCIES)
