I-Day celebrated with patriotic fervor in Leh, Kargil

LEH/KARGIL, Aug 16: The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour across Ladakh region.
In Leh, Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) LAHDC Dorjey Motup, unfurled the Tricolour and took salute at an impressive march past comprising the contingents of JKP, Paramilitary, NCC, Civil and Army band besides a number of contingents of Government and private educational institutions.
Executive Councilors, Counc-ilors, DC Leh Avny Lavasa, SSP Leh other officers of civil administration, police and a large number of people were also present.
CEC Dorjey Motup said that Independence Day is an occasion to make a commitment to serve the motherland and contribute for the development and progress of the nation.
A colourful cultural programme was also presented on the occasion by school students, Information Department and J&K Cultural Academy.
The Independence Day functions were also held at Tehsils, sub-divisions and Naibats of the Leh district.
In Kargil, the main function was held at Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium Biamathang where Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal unfurled the National Flag and took salute at an impressive march past by contingents of JKP, NCC and Army besides a number of contingents of Government and private educational institutions.
Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil, Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan, MLA Kargil, Syed Asgar Ali Karbalie, Superintendent of Police, Dr Pawan Kumar, Councillors, senior civil, police and army officers, representative of religious and social organizations and a large number of people were present on the occasion.
The DC, while congratulating the people said that the day brings us the message of love, peace, unity and communal harmony. He said the day calls for to work together in strengthening and promoting the age-old ethos and principles of brotherhood, oneness and unity in diversity.
Various colourful cultural programmes were also presented on the occasion by the artists of Cultural Academy, Art and Languages and children of Government and private schools.
Independence Day celebrations were also held at sub-division Drass, Zanaskar and Shakar Chikten besides Tesil Tai Suru and Shargole, where concerned SDMs unfurled the National Flag.
