Hyderbeigh-Chanderseer road in bad shape

Srinagar, Sept 22: The dilapidated condition of the road from Hyderbeigh-Chanderseer in North Kashmir Baramulla district has made the lives of the people living in adjacent areas difficult as the road has not been macadamized in the last more than 15 years while as the widening of the said road is going on at snail’s pace.
The locals said that the road which is about 9 kilometres long is filled with potholes while the administration has been turning a blind eye towards their plight even as it has failed in filling the potholes that have made commuting on the road a nightmare.
As the demands of the locals have not been heard so far, the Sumo drivers who are plying on the road have now started an indefinite strike while they are stating that unless and until the road is not repaired, they will not resume the service. The move by Sumo drivers has further increased the hassles of the locals who are now forced to reach their destinations on foot.
“The road has been last macadamized in the year 2005 and since then, there has not been any attention given by the administration,” Muhammad Yaseen, a local said.
The locals said that even as the widening of the road is going on since 2018, the pace of the same is slow and doesn’t seem to be completing anytime soon. “We are requesting them to at least fill the potholes till the road widening is completed, but nothing has been done so far,” another local said.
The locals are also not satisfied with the response of the concerned local representatives either as they have failed in raising the issue with the concerned higher-ups.
In the meantime, it appears that the strike of sumo drivers which is going on from Monday will continue as the drivers said that instead of earning a few bucks, they are left with no option but to spend the same on the repairs of their vehicles which they cannot afford to do.
A concerned official at the R&B told Excelsior that the Government will be releasing the funds for further widening of the road, while the matter of filling up the potholes will also be carried out.
“The concerned contractor has been directed to take up the work of carrying out the repairs and the same shall be taken up within a week,” Toofeeq Chisti, Executive Engineer R&B said.
