JAMMU, May 11: Gandhi Nagar police arrested the husband of a lady, who succumbed to her burn injuries at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) yesterday.
As per police sources, police team from Gandhi Nagar police station headed by SDPO Gandhi Nagar Harjeet Singh arrested the husband of a burn victim namely Jasweer Singh, son of Jeet Raj of Roop Nagar, Digiana on the allegation leveled by the family members of the deceased for setting her ablaze in lieu of dowry.
People and relatives of woman identified as Asha Devi, daughter of Sham Lal, a resident of Karalia, district Samba yesterday blocked the vehicular movement on the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway demanding arrest of the in-laws for killing the lady by setting her ablaze.
As alleged by the family members of the victim, the in-laws use to demand more dowry and severally thrashed and beat the lady several times. Husband of the woman along with other family members set her ablaze, they added.
On the allegation leveled by the family members of the victim, police arrested the husband of the lady.
Further investigation is going on.
