JAMMU, Mar 21: The ongoing hunger strike by Contractual Lecturers (10+2) entered into 36th day today as there was no response from the Government side over their continuous strike and demand for regularization.
Shocked over the sudden death of the mother of their colleague Vinod Kumar, who is on fast unto death, the agitating Contractual Lecturers alleged that she died due to mental agony because of Government’s insensitive attitude towards plight of her son. “Government is responsible for death of Vinod Kumar’s mother and if our demand is not conceded, all of us will have no option but to sacrifice our lives for the due right,” said
Arun Bakshi, State president of the Contractual Lecturers Association.
The Contractual Lecturers are agitating for their regularization as per the Civil Services Special Provision Act 2010, a policy framed for regularization of all the Ad-hoc/ Contractual/Consolidate employees after rendering seven years of services.
Meanwhile, Seema Rajput, who was shifted to GMC Hospital Jammu following deterioration in her condition due to fast unto death since March 12, today rejoined the fast dharna after she was discharged from the hospital. She is continuing her fast unto death.
Contractual Lecturers Sanjay Kumar, Surinder Kumar, Anju Bala and Shilpa Raina began their chain hunger strike today and warned to convert it into fast unto death.
Meanwhile, several social and trade union leaders visited the agitating Contractual Lecturers and assured their support to them.
Those who visited the dharna venue, included M K Yogi, M K Bhat (president of Contractual Employees Forum), Sunita Sharma (president of Rural Women Foundation of J&K State) and others.
