SAMBA, Sept 19: A huge puddle on the Basantar bridge on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway in Samba has become a cause of concern for the people in general and commuters in particular as it may be cause of big catastrophe if immediate steps are not taken to repair the road and can also put the lives of commuters to risk.
According to the reports, till date the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has not taken any initiative to repair this portion of Highway, though knowing fully that the puddle at this particular spot can create havoc. Although the advisors to Governor and other senior officers of administration often pass this bridge, but none of them has taken cognizance of the same ignoring that it can be cause of any catastrophe.
As per reports there was a heavy flood in Basantar few years ago due to which the bridge was slightly damaged. At that time the administration closed the bridge for the vehicles but after some time, the traffic was restored via this portion of bridge.
But now a big puddle has emerged at this place on the bridge and the administration has not repaired it yet, due to which the puddle is getting bigger day by day, but the administration is in still in deep slumber.
The people of the area are also worried over the puddle on Basantar bridge saying it is day by day getting expanded. They said the vehicles plying on NH are always in high speed and there is every apprehension of a major catastrophe if immediate steps were not taken for renovation of the bridge.
Kamal Bhatti social worker has demanded immediate renovation of the road at this point to avert any untoward accident.
