Huge default of loan amount in J&K ST, SC Corpn

SRINAGAR, July 24: Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo today chaired 37th meeting of Board of Director of Jammu and Kashmir Schedule Tribe, Schedule Caste and Other Backward Classes Development Corporation and reviewed the functioning of the corporation besides status of various ongoing schemes, loan disbursement and recovery process.
The meeting deliberated at length on the steps required to be taken for revival of the Corporation for making it more efficient and at the same time to provide more benefits to the privileged section of the society.
Reviewing the performance of the Corporation, it was informed that the Corporation has advanced loans Rs. 806.85 lakh to 529 beneficiaries under direct financing scheme. The meeting was told that 1836 cases were sponsored by the Corporation under bank tie up scheme against the target of 1500 units out of which the bank had sanctioned loan in 841 cases in which Corporation paid Rs. 33 lakh as subsidy during the year 2013-14.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Sakina emphasized on bringing more transparency and rationalization in loan disbursement so that all deserving beneficiaries get their due share. She asked the concerned officers focus attention on wide coverage of beneficiaries of rural and far-flung areas under the schemes of the Corporation.
While expressing concern over the huge default of loan amount, the Minister directed the concerned to speed up the loan recovery process highlighting the importance of this key component in the successful and effective working of the corporation. She, however, warned that their carelessness approach in performing their duty in this regard would be dealt strictly, adding that there must be a zero tolerance in case of loan recovery in future.
The Minister directed the concerned officers to conduct more and more awareness camps in rural and far-flung areas to make aware the people about the various welfare schemes of the corporation and to develop confidence among the beneficiaries. She said that the main motive of the corporation is to work for socio-economical emancipation of under privileged section of the society.
Principal Secretary Finance, B.B Vyas, Secretary Social Welfare Department, Mohammad Shafi Rather, Director Social Welfare Jammu, M. S Choudhary, Director Code Finance, Mohammad Rafi Andrabi, Representative from Planning and Development Department, MD ST/SC/OBC, Y. P Suman beside other senior officers were also present in the meeting.
