SAMBA, Dec 29: Humanity Public School, Bassi Kalan, Bari Brahmana organized a three-day Craft Demonstration-Cum-Awareness Programme in collaboration with the Handicrafts Service Centre, Jammu, under the aegis of the Development Commissioner, Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
The initiative aimed to promote traditional Indian handicrafts, create awareness among students, and encourage appreciation for indigenous art forms. Students from classes 8 and 9 actively participated and observed live demonstrations by skilled artisans and State Awardees, including Sushma Devi (Hand Block Printing), Arvind (Metal Embossing), Garo Devi (Soft Toys Craft) and Leela Devi (Grass, Leaf and Reed Craft).
The programme, organized under the guidance of Swati Mathur, Assistant Director A&C and Omveer Singh Sheoran, HPO Handicrafts, concluded with a creative competition on the theme “Festivals of India / Dream World.” Dristhi Bhagat of class 9 won first prize, Priya Rajput of class 8 secured second and Pranav Choudhary of class 8 claimed third. Consolation prizes were awarded to Sonakshi Thappa (class 9), Manvi Sharma (class 9), Nishant Charak (class 8), Shantanu Verma (class 9), Shridhi Salaria (class 9), Niharika Devi (class 8), and Pranav Singh Charak (class 8).
Principal Gaurav Charak appreciated the programme, emphasizing its role in nurturing creativity, practical learning, cultural awareness and promoting skill-based education and self-reliance among students, while preserving India’s rich handicraft heritage.
