House wife beaten up by in-laws, one arrested

KATHUA, Mar 11: One person was arrested and two minor children were taken in custody for attacking their daughter- in- law with sharp edged weapon and sticks. She was locked in a room in injured condition with her seven year old son at village Seri, under jurisdiction of Billawer Police Station.
The seriously injured house wife identified as Jyoti Devi, wife of Pawan Kumar, resident of Seri in Billawar area was admitted in GMC Kathua yesterday by her sister and mother. She is undergoing treatment in the hospital as she received deep wounds on arms and hands.
Narrating the unfortunate incident, Jyoti Devi in tears said that she was attacked by her husband’s elder brother, Lokesh Kumar with Darati in a cowshed.
Later her mother in law, father in law and their elder son Jaith Lokesh and his wife also punched upon her in the presence of her 7 year old son.
She said “I was dragged in an injured condition to a room and put under lock along with my minor son by my father in law for the whole night,. In the morning I came out of the room when my mother in law opened the door for natural call”, she added.
She said “Taking the advantage of opening of the door I along with my minor son succeeded to escape from the house”. She informed her mother and sister on phone. She was taken to GMC Kathua in serious condition by them where she fell unconscious.
Her minor son said “My mother was brutally beaten up by Taya, Tayi, Dadu ,Dadi in cow shed”. The mother of victim said “My daughter was regularly beaten by in-laws and now they try to kill her in the absence of her husband”. She demanded immediate arrest of accused and strong punishment to them. She said “We are very poor and have no approach to get help in the getting justice”.
After getting the complaints from victim’s parents, Billawer police registered a case against six members of her in- laws family and deputed an Investigating Officer to Kathua to record the statement of victim. The Billawer police said that a FIR No 29/2022, under Section 323, 341, 147 and 342 IPC has been registered. The main accused nominated in the case Lokesh Kumar has been arrested. The police is investigating the matter and recording the statements of both the parties for further course of legal action.
