JAMMU, May 7: As the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad today began indefinite hunger strike against hostel fee hike, the Vice Chancellor of Jammu University ordered constitution of a committee to look into demands of the students.
The Committee shall submit its recommendations within two weeks to the Vice-Chancellor for further action.
Earlier, in the morning, the protesting ABVP activists began indefinite hunger strike against the alleged hike in fee of University hostels. The hunger strike is being supported by a number of other student organizations, including newly formed Dogra Kranti Dal.
Meanwhile, JU has once again sought to clarify that after proper consultation with student representatives, the hostel fee structure was revised last year and fixed at Rs 5480 per year including Rs 2000 as refundable security.
A section of students who  raised this issue after a gap of more than one year,  protested for roll back of the hostel fee. The University took a lenient view and constituted a committee to look into the matter. The committee in its  report recommended to reduce the refundable security from Rs 2000 to Rs  800. The protesting students did not agree  the recommendation of this committee and hence a new committee was  constituted today  to again look into the matter, said JU spokesperson.
