JAMMU, June 7: United Sikh Council has alleged that a piece of land measuring 16 kanals and 9 marlas which was sanctioned by the then Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah for a hospital at Digiana (Model Town) in Jammu has allegedly been grabbed by land mafia men.
Addressing a joint press conference here today members of the Sikh Council Kuldeep Singh, Kulwant Singh, Ranjit Singh and Mohan Singh alleged that nearly 129 kanal of Government land located in Model Town, Digiana meant for hospital and stadium has been grabbed by some influential land mafia-men.
They further alleged that in connivance with the Revenue and Police officials, the status of the land was changed. Fake entries were made in the revenue record using Patwaris and others. The land grabbers are now making plots and selling this land. Despite several representations of the general public, the higher authorities and even the Ministers did not budge. Not only this, a 16 kanals, 9 marla piece of land sanctioned by the then Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah in 2001-02 was also encroached upon.
The Sikh leaders said that people of the area wrote to the Revenue Minister, Chief Secretary, Financial Commissioner Revenue, Divisional Commissioner and DC Jammu but nothing happened. They demanded high level inquiry into the matter and sought intervention of Chief Minister in this regard.
