Horti Deptt organizes mega farmers’ awareness camp at Mathwar

JAMMU, May 25: With an objective to create awareness among the farming community for plantation of fruit crops, Department of Horticulture Jammu today conducted a mega farmers’ awareness camp at Padmi, the far flung area of block Mathwar.
The mega camp was chaired by Director Horticulture Jammu Ram Savak and was attended by more than 100 farmers including Sarpanch Gita Devi and Panchs.
Addressing the farmers, Director Horticulture urged farmers to adopt integrated farming in their fields and avail the benefits on different components viz: bore well, water harvesting tanks, drip irrigation, custom hiring centres, vermin-compost units, protected cultivation, tools & implements etc. for upliftment of their socio- economic status.
He appealed the PRI and field functionaries to work in tandem for doubling the farmers’ income with special focus on area expansion, establishment of solar driers, processing units and especially Nursery Development Scheme. Further, he asked them to form Self Help Groups (SHG’s) and associate with the Horticulture department.
Earlier, Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu Sarbjeet Singh briefed the Director Horticulture about the ongoing works.
Sub Divisional Magistrate Bhalwal Uttam Chand advised the farmers to frequently interact with the field functionaries of the Department regarding the new technologies and also appealed them to establish low cost processing units with the assistance of the department.
Later, the Director Horticulture distributed fruit plants among the participating farmers.
Horticulture Development Officer Bhalwal Sandeep Sharma carried out the proceedings of the programme.
