SRINAGAR, Sept 20: Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi today reviewed security in Kashmir valley in the aftermath of Fidayeen attack in Uri on Sunday in which 18 soldiers were killed.
Mehrishi was scheduled to hold review meeting earlier, but because of meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Monday, Mehrishi’s visit was deferred by a day.
Accompanied by a team of senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Union Home Secretary called on the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti and discussed the prevailing situation in the Valley.
Mehrishi held detailed deliberations with the Chief Minister over the law and order situation and the measures to be taken to ensure early return of peace and normalcy.
They discussed the measures to be taken to tackle the unrest in Kashmir that claimed 84 lives in Kashmir and in which over 13000 were injured. Mehbooba told the Home Secretary that the situation is gradually normalizing and the violence levels are getting down.
The Union Home Secretary later called on Governor N N Vohra at the Raj Bhavan. He held extensive discussions about the security situation with Governor and attack on Uri Brigade. They discussed issues relating to the restoration of normalcy in the State.
The Home Secretary later held security review meeting with the Core group of security forces who briefed him about the measures taken to restore peace and normalcy in the Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary B R Sharma and other top civil administration officers, Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, K Rajendra, and other senior officers of Police, Central Para-Military Forces, Army and top officials of the Intelligence agencies.
