JAMMU, Mar 4: Aggrieved home guards today held a protest dharna at Mubarak Mandi against the Government for not fulfilling their long pending demands.
The agitating home guards assembled at Mubarak Mandi and raised slogans against the Government for turning a deaf ear towards their demands for which they are fighting for the past five years.
Addressing the gathering, Kamla Sharma, President of the association said that J&K is the only State where the home guards are getting Rs 545 per month. She said that they are protesting against the Government for the past five years, but the Government is not resolving their demands compelling them to adopt agitational path.
She added that the Central Government is paying huge funds to the State Government for reactivation of home guards, but the same is being used to meet the high ends of the higher officials and other miscellaneous expenditures.
Sharma said that the Government should re-engage the disengaged home guards at the earliest and also asked the Government to assign duties to all the home guards on daily basis.
She also demanded regularization of the home guards and urged the Director General of Police Ashok Parsad to do the needful in their favour.
