HM commander killed in Kashmir

Srinagar : A commander of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) was killed in a fierce encounter with security forces in the frontier district of Kupwara, official sources said here today. Acting on a tip-off about the presence of militants, security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint at Nagri Drugmulla in the frontier district of Kupwara. However, during the searches, militants fired upon security forces with automatic weapons. The fire was retaliated and in the fierce clash, HM commander Sameer, a resident of Sopore, was killed.  Security forces have recorded arms and ammunition recovered from the slain militant. The locals immediately took to the streets protesting against the killing of militant. Raising “pro freedom” slogans, the demonstrators pelted stones on security forces. Additional security forces have been rushed to the area, the sources added.  (Agencies)
