JAMMU, May 15: Acting swiftly over the directions issued to the higher authorities of the Police Department by the Governor N N Vohra to allow no delay in finalizing investigation of the accident, in which a renowned yoga instructor was killed, Gandhi Nagar police arrested the truck driver, who was involved in the accident and solved the hit and run case.
As per police sources, on May 9 this year, a renowned yoga instructor of J&K State Sports Council namely Sanjay Kumar (50), son of Late Mohan Lal, a resident of Old Municipal Flats Opposite Government Boys Higher Secondary School Bakshi Nagar was overrun by an unidentified vehicle during the wee hours.
The deceased was shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where after conducting autopsy, the body was handed over to legal heirs for last rites.
A case under FIR Number 109/18 under Sections 279 and 304-A RPC was registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station and investigations started to trace out the vehicle involved in the accident and arrest the accused driver.
As Governor N N Vohra had expressed grief over the death of yoga instructor and has directed the police to allow no delay in finalizing investigation of the accident, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Vivek Gupta constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT), which was headed by SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas.
Working over the CCTV footage, the SIT reached out at Gupta Transporters Narwal, from where it came to fore that the vehicle had left for FCI Godown at Kangra Dharamkund in district Ramban.
A team was deputed to the FCI Godown, from where the truck bearing registration number JK02AW-3175 was seized and the accused driver was taken into custody.
The accused driver has been identified as Sanjeev Kumar (29), son of Ishar Dass, a resident of Bakar, Sunderbani, District Rajouri.
Further investigation into the case is going on.
Police team led by SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector Sunil Singh Jasrotia and assisted by Incharge Police Post Nehru Market SI Sandeep Charak, worked out the hit and run case and arrested the accused under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, SP South Sandeep Choudhary and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
