Hit and run case solved within 5 hours by Akhnoor police

JAMMU, Sept 12: A hit and run case in which two persons were killed last evening in Akhnoor area, was solved by the police within 5 hours.
Addressing a press conference today, SP Rural, Suram Singh said that at about 3:45 PM yesterday an unknown vehicle hit a motorcycle bearing registration number JK02CD-6373 at Dhok Jagir (Sohal) in which two persons namely Prema Ram (80) son of Sain Dass, resident of Bhagwana Chak, tehsil Khour and Harbans Lal (45) son of Girdhari Lal, resident of Sarmala, tehsil Khour, died on the spot.
He said a police team reached the spot and shifted the dead bodies to SDH Akhnoor for postmortem. The officer said as there was no witness but during spot inspection, one broken piece of right side mirror of the vehicle was recovered with the marking R-67L1, which was taken to various automobile companies including Maruti Suzuki and it was confirmed from the agency that the vehicle involved in accident was a Wagon-R.
“Thereafter, CCTV footages of different locations of Akhnoor city and some adjoining areas was obtained, analyzed thoroughly and probed for any clue with the incident and soon it was established that one Wagon-R (white colour) crossed that spot at 4:15 PM,” the officer disclosed, adding, subsequently vehicle’s number (JK02CF-3947) and its owner was traced and the erring driver (Ranjeet Singh, son of Angrez Singh, resident of Domana near Army ground) was arrested.
The SP claimed that the blind hit and run case was solved in less than 5 hours after strenuous efforts of Akhnoor police which otherwise have been unsolved mystery as there was no eye witness to it. Also present in the press conference were SDPO Akhnoor, Ajay Sharma and SHO Akhnoor.
