Hit and run case solved

JAMMU, Jan 16: Akhnoor police today claimed to have solved a hit and run case in which a man was killed last night.
“Yesterday at about 9:30 PM, police station Akhnoor received information that one unknown motorist has been hit by an unknown vehicle and is lying unconscious on Sohal-Akhnoor road,” a police official said.
He said acting on the information, SDPO Akhnoor Ajay Sharma immediately sent a special team of police station Akhnoor led by Inspector Pardeep Sharma to the spot. The team shifted the injured man to Sub District Hospital Akhnoor, where he was declared as brought dead by the doctors.
“Meanwhile, the police team, in less than one hour time, identified the truck (bearing registration number JK-02W 1984) involved in the accident and apprehended from one interior road leading Pangiari,” the official said, adding, the accused driver namely Pomi Ram son of Dhani Ram, resident of Badgal Kalan was arrested.
He said the truck was identified on basis of broken rear right part of the body of truck and the driver ultimately admitted his involvement and act. This became possible due to swift action, use of professional acumen and common sense of the police, he added.
Subsequently, a case FIR number 9/2020 under Sections 279/304 was registered at police station Akhnoor and further investigation started. The case was solved by Akhnoor police under supervision of SP Rural, Suram Singh and SDPO Akhnoor Ajay Sharma.
