Historic Mughal road remains closed for third day

SRINAGAR :  The historic 86-km-long Mughal road remained closed for the third day today due to slippery road conditions while the highway, connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country was through for both ways with some restrictions.
The Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region remained closed, a traffic police official told UNI this morning. However, he said the road from Shopian to Pir-ki-Gali was through but slippery conditions forced authorities to suspend the traffic.         He said due to below freezing temperature, snow on the road had accumulated making the road slippery.
He said during inspection today, the road remained slippery and there was remote chance of reopening it before there is major change in the weather conditions as the mercury remained below freezing point.
However, he said the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway was through for both ways with some restrictions. ”We have fixed deadline for vehicles to cross particular points from Jammu and Srinagar to avoid any traffic jam or accident on the highway.
Massive traffic jam for several hours was witnessed on the highway yesterday at different places. However, all vehicles were cleared and fresh traffic was allowed from both sides today,” he said.
Dozens of far-flung and remote villages, including those near the Line of Control (LoC) remained cut off with their respective district headquarters in north Kashmir due to closure of roads following accumulation of snow and slippery road conditions. (UNI)
