SRINAGAR : The historic Mughal road remained closed for the second day today due to slippery road conditions while the highway, connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country was through for both ways with some restrictions.
The 86-km-long Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region remained closed for the second day today, a traffic police official said this morning.
He said due to below freezing temperature, snow on the road had frozen due to which there was slippery conditions. ”We allowed some vehicles yesterday after there was some improvement,” he said, adding but we had to recall them again as there was slippery conditions which could have resulted in accidents.
He said during the inspection, the road remained slippery and there was remote chance of reopening it before there is major change in the weather conditions.
However, he said the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was through for both ways with some restrictions. We have fixed dead line for vehicles to cross particular points from Jammu and Srinagar to avoid any traffic jam or accident on the highway.
Meanwhile, dozens of far flung and remote villages, including those near the Line of Control (LoC) remained cut off with their respective district headquarter in north Kashmir due to closure of roads following closure of roads due to accumulation of snow and slippery road conditions. (UNI)
